Indian Style Soft Rice Flour Chapati Recipe

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Boiling the Water

Add 3 cups of water to a kadai (pan).

Add salt to taste and 2 teaspoons of oil.

Bring the water to a rolling boil.

2. Adding the Flour

Once the water boils, reduce the heat to low.

Add 2 cups of rice flour to the water.

Mix well for 2-3 minutes until the flour incorporates the water.

Turn off the heat, cover with a lid, and let it rest for 5 minutes. This allows the flour to steam and soften.

3. Kneading the Dough

While the dough is still warm (do not let it cool completely), transfer it to a flat surface.

Grease your hands with a little oil.

Knead the dough thoroughly for 4-5 minutes until it becomes smooth and pliable. You should not need to add extra water.

4. Rolling the Chapatis

Take a small portion of the dough and roll it into a ball.

Dust with dry rice flour and roll it out into a circle.

Tip: If the edges are uneven, use a round plate or lid to cut the dough into a perfect circle.

5. Roasting

Heat a tawa (griddle) on medium-high heat.

Place the chapati on the tawa and roast both sides.

Apply a little ghee or oil if desired, though they stay soft even without it.
