Mohabbat Ka Sharbat (Summer Refreshment) Recipe

“Mohabbat Ka Sharbat” is a famous refreshing summer drink traditionally made with milk, watermelon, and rose syrup.

This version adds jelly and chia seeds for extra texture and cooling benefits.

Ingredients

For the Base & Toppings:

Milk: Boiled and chilled (room temperature or cold).

Watermelon: Some finely chopped, others scooped into small balls.

Rose Syrup / Rooh Afza: 2-3 tablespoons (adjust to taste).

Sugar: 3-4 tablespoons.

Chia Seeds (Sabja): 2-3 tablespoons (soaked in water for 15-20 mins).

Ice Cubes: As needed.

For the Jelly:

Ready-made Jelly Mixture: 1 packet (Strawberry or Raspberry flavor).

Water: 2 cups (500ml).

Preparation Steps

1. Soak the Chia Seeds

Begin by soaking the chia seeds in water for about 15 to 20 minutes. They will swell up and become gelatinous, which helps in cooling the body during summer.

2. Prepare the Jelly

Heat 2 cups of water until warm (no need to boil).

Empty the ready-made jelly mixture into a bowl and pour the warm water over it.

Mix well until dissolved, then pour into a flat, deep plate.

Let it set for about 30 minutes (no refrigeration required for most instant mixes).

Once set, cut the jelly into small cubes.

3. Prepare the Watermelon

Cut a watermelon and use a measuring spoon to scoop out small half-moon or round shapes for a professional look.

Alternatively, you can simply chop the watermelon into very fine pieces.

4. Assemble the Sharbat

In a large mixing bowl, take the chilled milk.

Add sugar and the rose syrup (Rooh Afza). Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved and the milk turns a beautiful pink.

Add the chopped and scooped watermelon pieces.

Add the soaked chia seeds and the prepared jelly cubes.

Finish with plenty of ice cubes to keep it ice-cold.

Serving Suggestion

Serve immediately in tall glasses. This drink provides a mix of textures—the crunch of the watermelon, the softness of the jelly, and the smoothness of the rose-flavored milk. It is a filling and highly refreshing drink for hot summer days.
